Trip’s Place began with a dream and is one that has been progressing for several years. The vision of Trip’s Place is to provide a safe home for single women or women and their children who have experienced domestic violence, sex trafficking and/ or sexual exploitation. Trip’s Place will be set up as second or third stage housing. We plan to provide equine therapy through our partner, The Ranch Without Borders, as well as, assist with finding employment, parenting and provide other modalities such as counselling. Trip’s Place will be situated in the country and will provide a quiet atmosphere amongst animals and nature to help the women heal.
I have worked with several brave women who have emerged from tragic circumstances and I have witnessed their perseverance and desire to leave their difficult circumstances.
Domestic violence and sex trafficking are often thought of as occurring separately but both can be found in the same circumstance. Presently, as we continue to work on the housing portion of this charity we provide equine therapy for women and children who have come from these experiences as well as children’s camps. We continue to raise money to help support the women to live at Trip’s Place or potentially purchase housing for them.
As a board we decided to change our name from Dinah’s Daughters to Trip’s Place. The name Trip’s Place has special meaning. First, it is named after my brother who passed away in November of 2017. My brother was one of the kindest people that I have had the privilege of knowing. He believed in and supported my vision of helping women in these circumstances. The second reason is that our first equine therapy horse is named Trip. He is amazing at his job and has helped several individuals with his acute intuition to people’s emotions. The last reason is simply in the name itself; Trip. In our life’s journey we will make many mistakes. Our desire is that the women who enter Trip’s Place know that we support them every step of the way. They will learn to stand tall and put one foot in front of the other but they will also learn to fall.
